LED lighting technology is more than just an extra-efficient source of lighting, they can also be a source of very high quality lighting for the most discerning designers and architects. Quality of light is measured using the Color Rendering Index (CRI). CRI is measured by assigning a numerical value (0-100) to how a light renders (displays) the following colors, named R1-R8


The average of these values are used to determine the CRI of a light source. However, this figure is not a complete picture of a light's ability to render color. higher R-values, R9-R14, should also be analyzed:

A light's ability to render these colors is crucial to the quality of a light source. A light can have a high CRI, but a low R9 value, which would make people and objects appear dull and lifeless. R13 vales are important for correctly rendering skin tone. Therefore, our Designer Grade of LED light strips not only render high R1-R8 values, but also render R9-R14 values highly.


Here you can see how a light source with a high CRI can still render colors poorly. A more complete assessment of the quality of a light source can be given by the Color Quality Scale (CQI) developed by NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology). The scale incorporates all R-values, in addition to the rendering of saturation between R-values. Our Designer Grade strips also boast high CQI levels.
